BGS Parents, Potential Threat – Today, Benton High School received a report of a possible threat on social media and immediately began the process of investigating the matter with local law enforcement. Benton Grade School was not part of the online threat. However, I want you to be aware of the issue and know we are communicating with the high school and local law enforcement. Our campus doors remain locked throughout the day, and we have two SRO’s monitoring entrances, parking lots, cameras, and walking the campus. We will remain dedicated to our safety protocols and communicate any significant safety concerns as they arise. Thank you. BGS Administration

Today 8/26/2024 - Baseball and Softball games will be played at 5:30 at Herrin. Tomorrow 8/27/2024 - Baseball and Softball game will be played at 6:00 at Harrisburg. This is subject to change. Thursday 8/29/2024 Cross Country Meet has been canceled.

BGS Parents. Reminder: *Tomorrow, Monday August 26th..Students will return to the 3:00 dismissal schedule. K-4 students will be dismissed at 2:45 5-8 students will be dismissed at 2:50 *If you need to call the school to change transportation home for a day, Please call school before 2:00 p.m. , this will ensure the message gets delivered to your student before dismissal. *Please remember to call the office if your student is absent so we can correctly enter their attendance code.

BGS Parents, Today, Benton Grade School SROs received a call from Benton PD dispatch stating they received a call from the Suicide Hotline Prevention that a student had a gun, threatened to kill himself, and was located at Benton Middle School. We knew the student’s name and knew he was a high school student. We immediately notified Benton High School administration. The student was in attendance and was quickly apprehended. We are assured by the Benton police a gun was not involved, students were never in danger, and the situation is contained. The safety of our students is our number one priority at BGS and we will continue to be vigilant as well as communicate safety concerns to you in a timely manner. I want to thank Benton PD, Benton SROs, and the suicide prevention hotline for their communication and quick response to resolve the situation.

BGS Parents - we have had an issue with Yellow Bus and it will run approximately 20 minutes late this afternoon. We just wanted you to be aware. Thank you.

The baseball and softball games against Hamilton Country for today have been canceled. Baseball will practice 2-3:15 in the 5-8 Gym and softball will practice 3:15-4:30 in the 5-8 gym.

Cross Country Tryouts are Wednesday Aug. 14th and Thursday Aug. 15th from 2:05 - 3:15 at the track. Anyone interested must have a current physical on file.

BGS Parents, Just a reminder McLeansboro Street is closed North of the railroad track to Webster Street. Please plan accordingly for drop off and pick up. The city indicated the closure will last approximately two weeks. We look forward to a great start tomorrow and an outstanding 24-25 school year!

Student’s schedules for 5th -8th grade are now available in teacher ease. Schedules will also be available at Meet the Teacher night August 8th @ 5:30. No Schedules will be changed until school starts. Students will be able to request a schedule change during the first week of school, Aug 12th– Aug16th.

Baseball Tryouts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will be Monday July 22nd and Tuesday July 23rd from 8:30-10:30 at the baseball field at the park. If it rains tryouts will be held in the 5-8 gym at the school. If tryouts are moved to the school, there will be a sign on the dugout. Softball Tryouts for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will be Wednesday, July 31st, at the park on Field 3. softball tryouts will use the following schedule, 6th grade at 9 am, 7th grade at 9:30 am, 8th grade at 10:15 am All students must have a current physical to try out.

Reminder: Tomorrow is an 11am dismissal and our last day of school. We will see you all back on August the 12th. Have a great summer!

Reminder (8th Grade Students): If you still have a textbook or a book from the school, it needs to be returned before school gets out on May 24th.
