E-Learning Guidelines
In the event of a school closure, E-Learning may be announced. E-Learning will provide for improved continuity of learning when school is closed. All students will work from home.
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) allows schools to utilize E-Learning days in lieu of emergency days. BGS can utilize a maximum of 5 E-Learning days. E-Learning days count as school days, which means the day would not be added to the end of the school calendar.
Lessons, activities, and assessments will be in Google Classroom for all students in grades 3-8. Teachers will make lessons and assignments available by 9:00 a.m. each day of E-Learning. Students in grades K-4 will receive hard copy lessons sent home by the classroom teacher on September 30, 2024. A total of five lessons will be included and labeled accordingly for each E-Learning Day.
Completed work will verify attendance for each E-Learning Day. If work is not completed and submitted, a student absence will be recorded.
Teachers will be available to answer questions between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Contact with students/parents will happen through Google Classroom, email, phone calls and Google Meet sessions. Teachers will check their communication tools at least once an hour during that period.
Students will have the E-Learning day(s) plus two extra consecutive school days to complete the E-Learning work and submit to their teacher.
Teachers are aware that each student’s family may have special circumstances and that unexpected events may occur. If your family has a unique circumstance, please communicate with your teacher so we can work with you to solve the problem.
Students with IEPs and other special circumstances will receive assignments in accordance with their individualized plans.
Students will be accountable for attending classes remotely and for completing all assignments. Attendance will be verified by submission of completed work.
For Parents/Guardians
Parents/Guardians are welcome to contact the school with questions regarding any E-Learning Plan Guidelines.
Parents/Guardians, along with teachers and students, are asked to remember that E-Learning days are designed to be flexible: if a student struggles with a concept or assignment and is unable to complete the work that day, parents should remind their son or daughter to communicate with the teacher the next day about how to meet requirements.
